I completely missed the first three days of this. And they're actually showing it on BBC America, so I was planning to watch without pirating. Curses!

Really enjoying it so far. feels a bit like an epic movie version and I like the thriller aspect to it. we'll see how it goes now the aliens are in it but so far so great.

I wouldn't say it was perfect, but it was as good as British TV drama gets these days.  I was happy to see the loss of the Torchwoodmobile (I never did like that car, too flash for a secret organisation), sad to see the loss of the Hub, and as to the events towards the end...  Very, very well done, and the pacing was about right for me.

The question now is, is there any chance at all of a Season 4?

Just caught episode one; the other two are finished loading but I'm too tired to watch them now. I'll try and snag the final two later.
Day One, though, was fantastic. Grabbed my interest and held it all the way through, even managed to surprise me a time or two--honestly, the doctor shooting Jack in the back left my jaw dropped.
I'll post again as I continue through it.

Just watched Day 2, starting Day 3.
Hey--is that blond newscaster the same actress from the DH episode Midnight?

Alright, that rocked out bigger than either season was.
Overall the drama wasn't overdone, and very little that was easily predicted. The only thing I predicted well ahead of the actual revelation was Jack being the person who gave up the first 12 children. Even Ianto's death surprised me. The end sacrifice of Jack's grandson was also quite the shock.
I just don't see Torchwood coming back after this, though, but that's alright. While this was quite dramatic and thrilling, that's in part because they were able to focus only on five episodes. If they were to return to a more episodic format, it wouldn't be as pleasing. Perhaps doing a special like this once or twice a year would prove to be better for them.

Finally got caught up on this, having been away when it was on.

My first thoughts are that Torchwood finally got good.  :D

But then they decided to end the whole thing just as it had got good.

Great characterisation (though Jack's decision to leave Earth felt slightly wrong, given his comments at the end of Last of the Time Lords), great plot, great aliens, this is how Torchwood always should have been, but wasn't.

Having thought about it now, I reckon a fourth season is quite feasible, and could work very well if done right.

First, I'd return to the episodic format - mini series are OK now and again, but a regular series gives more time to develop the characters, and also allows for smaller-scale plots.

I'd leave Jack out of the picture for the time being and instead I'd pick up the storyline a few months later, with Gwen coming back off maternity leave and going to work as Torchwood Cardiff's new CO.  The first few episodes could involve her establishing a new base and recruiting a new team, while also trying to get a decent budget out of the government (I've always had the impression that Torchwood Cardiff is a shoestring outfit).  It could be interesting to see the storyline continue with a bunch of new characters.

Well--my view on Torchwood was that it was always good, right before it was bad. Almost every episode had it's moment of glory, a crowning moment of cool--around half an hour in. The rest of the episode then acted like a vampire, sucking away at the respect it had briefly earned.
Instead, they saved all their biggest moments of awesome for the last two days, going out big instead of just going out.
I have to restate my wish for this to be the end of Torchwood, though. But I could see the characters going on in another show. Perhaps a bit of UNIT action, so when characters are removed for whatever reason, there's a ready and believable supply of backups. It would also give them an excuse for an international program, something that takes them all over the planet, instead of hanging out in one city all the time.
